EUGENE TO HOST PIPE ORGAN ENCOUNTER+

A Pipe Organ Encounter+ (POE+) is a week-long summer organ program for adults, ages

19 and older. What makes Eugene’s POE+ special is that we will be offering beginning and advanced instruction for organ and harpsichord. Beginning students are proficient pianists who will learn the basics; more advanced players will continue to expand their repertoire and technique. Harpsichord instruction is optional; an organ-only curriculum is available. Only a limited number of participants can be accepted, so early application is

recommended.

The week will include individual instruction on both organ and harpsichord (optional), tours of Petty and Associates Pipe Organ Builder facility and Andrew Lagerquist’s harpsichord building shop, masterclasses and workshops on such topics as:

•  The Sins of Commission: covering new and unusual works for harpsichord and organ.

Guy Weitz (1883-1970), Organist and composer

•  Performing Buxtehude: what do I need to know?

•  Organ Technique—Early and Modern

Choirs from our local church communities will join us for a Hymn Festival, accompanied by POE+ participants, and the week will conclude with a participants’ recital.

If the National AGO Convention in Washington D.C. seems too far away, consider attending Eugene’s POE+.
